Hello Salem, its Mike Banks, and I hope to gain your support and vote on March 13th 2018 during the Town Elections. On February 1st, I registered with the Salem Town Clerk to be a candidate for Planning Board in Salem NH in March. I assembled this website to provide Residents of Salem NH an opportunity to learn more about my background and ambitions, and why I’ve decided to run for a seat on the Planning Board.
A little about me….I moved to Salem in October 2003, and have made Salem Depot my home for the last 15 years, along with my wife Tara, and daughter Addison. Other places I’ve lived include; Burlington VT, Syracuse NY, and Bracebridge ONT Canada. For the last 2 years, I’ve been on Salem’s EDAC Committee – Economic Development Action Committee, and active volunteer with the Salem Rail Trail Corridor-(FSBPC). You’ll find me around town, supporting volunteer activities associated with either the Salem Rail Trail, or with the Salem Knights of Columbus – Council 4442. Professionally, my 25+ year career in the Telecommunications Industry has cut across many different roles, that I believe provides the basis to be an effective member of the Planning Board.
Why do I want to run for Planning Board? Mainly because it’s my civic duty to invest in Salem by contributing my time and effort to make Salem a better community to work, play and live. Also, local government would afford me the opportunity to see the output of planning board decisions more rapidly, and be in tune with the ‘pain points’ such as traffic on Route 28. I will be an advocate for Salem, promoting its advantages as a business friendly hub strategically located Southern New Hampshire. I’ll make every effort afforded to me to ensure that current businesses can grow, and new businesses make Salem their home, while balancing the quality of life for Salem Residents.
What to expect from me as a member of the Planning Board? Being bound by the town ordinances, and Master Plan, I would be both a collaborator and consensus builder with the desire to arrive at solutions which promote sustainable economic growth throughout Salem. I am open to public input, and would listen to the concerns of both the applicants, abutters, and residents. Although this being my first time running for an elected position, my involvement in the Salem Economic Development Action Committee has helped me understand Salem’s growth potential. This is an exciting time to be a part of Salem. I’m ready to roll up my sleeves and get to work for Salem.
Thank you for reading, and hope to gain your support and vote on March 13th for Planning Board. If you would like to donate to my campaign, I have set up a link below to donate online.
